Water parks across Permian Basin set to open for summer
Water parks across the Permian Basin are prepping to open for the summer, providing families a fun way to beat the heat.
The following are upcoming water park openings of note:
The Andrews Splash Park at 100 NE 6th St. will open for the season on May 23 and close for the season on Aug. 5. The pool grounds feature a covered picnic area with tables and gas BBQ grill, toddler splash pool, splash and play area, diving board, large three-tubed slide, several shaded structures, a snack bar, showers and restrooms. according to the city. The Russ McEwen Family Center at 911 Golf Course Rd. will open June 3 and close Aug. 5. The center will open Tuesdays through Saturdays and be closed Mondays. Children ages 2 and under are free, while ages 3 and up is $5. A Punch Pass, which is good for 12 entries, goes for $50. Center rentals are available. For more information, go here.
The Carlsbad Water Park at 708 Park Dr. will open its doors on Memorial Day weekend, May 27, Mayor Dale Janway recently announced. Park hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Monday openings coinciding with holidays like Memorial Day and July 3. Admission is $5. Carlsbad’s splash pads, including one near the beach bandshell and one at the sports complex, are open. Another splash pad is under development at Friendship Park, Mayor Janway said. Per the city’s website, splash pads in Hobbs historically open for a preview weekend on the weekend before Memorial Day. They begin summer operating hours on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. They will open seven days a week, 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., through the weekend before school starts. Once school begins, Splash Pads will be open on weekends only (Saturday and Sunday) through the last weekend in September. Splash Pads will operate on Labor Day (Monday). More info here.
Opening day for city pools and splash pads is May 28. That includes XTO Dennis The Menace Splash Pad (closed Thursday); the HEB Momentum Ballpark Splash Pad (depends on RockHounds’ schedule); Washington Aquatic Center at 1601 E. Indiana Ave. (closed Thursday); Doug Russell Aquatic Center at 900 N. Midland Dr. (closed Tuesday). Entry fee for both pools is $3 per person, except for children under 2 who are free. Punch cards are also available.
The City of Odessa’s swimming pools and spraygrounds open May 27. Each Pool will close one day per week for maintenance and heavy-duty cleaning purposes. The spraygrounds will operate daily. The Sherwood Family Aquatic Center closes Tuesdays, while the Woodson Family Aquatic Center closes Thursdays. Admission is free for 11 months old and under, $2.50 for children and $4 for adults for both aquatic centers. The Floyd Gwin Pool closes Wednesdays, and admission is free for 11 months old and under, $1.50 for children and $3 for adults. The McKinney Park and Jurrasic Jungle spraygrounds will both operate daily. For more information, go here.
The Pecos Splash Pad at Maxey Park, located at 2602 S Cothrun, opens May 26 and will remain open for the entire holiday weekend. The splash pad will close on May 30 for maintenance, but will open right back up on May 31. There is no charge to use the splash pad, which is open to the community.
