West Texas BBQ Bash & Car Show to benefit Monahans Kids Zone

An ongoing fundraising effort aimed at constructing a much-needed new building for the Monahans Kidz Zone (MKZ) will get a boost from the upcoming third annual West Texas BBQ Bash & Inaugural Car Show.

The free community event features a BBQ competition and free live music Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Monahans Texas Ward County Arena. Gates open at 11 a.m.

The Monahans Chamber of Commerce has alerted us to this fun event that will help raise funds for a new center for MKZ, an after school and part-time summer facility providing enriching programming such as homework assistance and healthy food and snacks for children of low-income homes. The event also raises funds for the Monahans Volunteer Fire Department.

The live music lineup includes Clay Creek (12:30); Gone by 9 (2 p.m.); Johnny Woods (3:30 p.m.); Casey Daniels Band (5 p.m.); Caleb Young Band (8 p.m.); and Cody Hibbard (9:30 p.m.).

Those wanting to participate in the BBQ competition or Car Show are encouraged to sign up.

For the BBQ competition, the Cook Team entry fee is $500 and consists of a Head Cook and up to five assistants. There are four competition categories: Beef Brisket, Pork Ribs, Chicken, Best appetizer (People’s Choice). Free tastings enables the public to select the People’s Choice champion.

For the Car Show, participants can pay the $30 registration fee on the day of the show, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Move-in will occur from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.) Awards will be announced at 3:30 p.m.
