MISD to provide virtual view of future high school campuses

The Midland Independent School District (MISD) is set to provide an immersive view of the future Legacy High School and Midland High School campuses.

The virtual experience provides a walk-through of virtual renderings of the future campuses scheduled to open in August 2028.

Following a media preview of the experience on Oct. 29, it will open to the public on the same day from 1-5:30 p.m.

Groundbreaking for both high schools is expected to take place in the summer of 2025. Once completed, both high schools will have a core student capacity of 4,200 and an academic capacity of 3,800, according to MISD, providing ample room for future growth, while offering abundant space for education and programs.

The school bond passage in November 2023 spurred the collaboration of stakeholders such as district leadership, educators, parents and community members over 56 meetings and an estimated 119 hours to fine-tune the final designs of the projects and ensure the new campuses “reflect the needs of Midland’s students, teachers, and the community as a whole,” according to the district.

The planning for the projects—encompassing long range planning in 2022 and the 100-person Bond Planning Committee—fortified the foundation for design and construction. A community survey stemming from these efforts provided feedback that was essential in guiding the design team to develop plans that reflect the needs articulated during the bond election.

MISD said the two new campuses, which will see the district go to 9th-12th high school and 6th-8th middle school grade alignments, will ultimately provide improved facilities and enable it to offer an exceptional educational experience, enhanced safety/security, enrollment growth and the implementation of new grade reconfigurations.
