Midland College students earn top honors at SkillsUSA district and state competitions
Midland College students earned several high honors at the 2025 SkillsUSA District and State competitions, showing off their technical skills in automotive, diesel, and mechatronics events.
The college’s participants performed strongly in district rounds, leading several students to advance and compete against top students from across Texas.
At the district level, students secured multiple top finishes:
- Meah McGinn earned first place in both Diesel and Tool Identification.
- Davin White and Brian Riera took first place as a Mechatronics Team.
- Jose Villegas and Xander Salcido placed second as a Mechatronics Team.
- Raymond Gutierrez, Yareli Molinero, and Kaylee Carillo earned top-three finishes in various automotive and diesel categories.
- A team including Gutierrez, McGinn, Molinero, Mekhi Stacy, Carillo, and Oscar Armendariz placed second in the Automotive Quiz Bowl.

Success continued at the state competition, where five students placed in the top ranks:
- Jose Villegas and Xander Salcido earned second place as a Mechatronics Team.
- Davin White and Brian Riera took third place as a Mechatronics Team.
- Yareli Molinero secured third place in the Automotive HVAC Technical Test.
- Raymond Gutierrez, Meah McGinn, and Mekhi Stacy also represented the college at the state level.
Erick Gutierrez, Chair of Energy and Technical Programs, said the competitions reflect the strength of the college’s programs and the dedication of the students to their craft.
“Their success reflects the commitment of our instructors and the strong collaboration we have with our regional education partners,” Gutierrez said. “Together, we’re able to provide meaningful, hands-on opportunities for students from across the region.”
