Greg Snow to become Midland's 12th police chief

Greg Snow named Midland’s 12th police chief

Greg Snow has been named as the 12th Midland Police Department (MPD) chief since 1941, the city announced.

The chief grew up in Midland and has served his entire 26-year career with the Midland Police Department, rising up the ranks in multiple roles, including police officer, detective and deputy chief. He most recently served as the interim chief, and is credited with rising up the ranks in multiple roles and for having early success as the department’s top official.

“Chief Greg Snow’s demonstrated leadership and results in driving down the crime rate of our community make him the right choice to lead the Midland Police Department,” Midland Mayor Lori Blong said. “His commitment to safety, innovation, and community engagement will strengthen our department and enhance the trust between our officers and the people they serve.”

District 2 Councilman John Norman added, “It has been a pleasure working alongside him, and his enthusiasm for implementing new ideas is truly inspiring. His forward-thinking approach and commitment to positive change are evident, and his leadership promises great progress for our community.”

As interim chief, Snow helped implement Operation Cruise Control and Operation Intersection Intervention to target speeding. Last year, Part 1 crimes, which are the most serious, were down 10.43 percent when compared to the pervious year. Total crimes are their lowest level since at least 2021.

“Public safety is a top priority for Midland, and strong leadership at the helm of our police department is critical to that mission,” At-large Councilman John Burkholder stated. Chief Snow brings the experience, vision, and dedication needed to keep our community safe and build strong relationships with our residents.”

The MPD is budgeted for 275 sworn and non-sworn employees. Its proposed expenditures for fiscal year 2025 are $42.359 million – a 1.1 percent increase over the budgeted amount for FY 2024.
