Reeves County media director earns national storytelling awards

Daniel Alvarado, the digital media director for Reeves County, won two national honors at the 32nd Annual Communicator Awards on May 5.

Alvarado received Distinction Awards for a documentary titled Hall of Fame Coach: Nora Geron and a social media project called Keepin’ the Cowboy in the Line. These awards are judged by industry leaders from major companies like Netflix and National Geographic Society.

“These recognitions reflect the heart of Reeves County,” said County Judge Leo Hung. “Daniel’s work continues to capture the stories that matter most, honoring our people, preserving our heritage, and strengthening the connection between our county and the community we serve. We are proud to see his efforts recognized on a national stage.”

In addition to these national awards, Alvarado will receive the regional Media Spotlight Award from the Area Agency on Aging of the Permian Basin on May 21. This award recognizes his dedication to community engagement across the region.

Alvarado is a self-taught professional who has led the county’s digital media department since 2022. He credits his skills to mentors and his upbringing in Olton, Texas.

“These awards are a reflection of the people of Reeves County. Every story we tell belongs to this community,” Alvarado said. “It is an honor to serve and to help preserve the voices and traditions that define who we are. Whether it’s emergency communication or community celebration, we will continue to deliver with excellence, integrity, and heart. I’ve learned that the true reward is in service, not applause.”
