Midland graduating seniors commit to becoming future educators
Nineteen Midland ISD graduating seniors were recently celebrated at the second annual Future Educator Signing Event for committing to pursuing educational careers.
Held at the Midland College Pre-K Academy, the event recognized students from the Teaching and Training Career Pathway, part of MISD’s Career and Technical Education department. The aim is to build a pipeline of teachers from within the community.
Students are offered letters of intent promising them a position in the Midland ISD when they return as certified educators. Each student received a symbolic letter of commitment and shared the name of a teacher who inspired them to pursue education.

“Data shows that most teachers stay close to home,” Jessie Garcia, Chief of Human Capital for Midland ISD, said. “That’s why we start this work early—with high schoolers—and support them through certification and into the classroom.”
Dr. Stephanie Howard, Superintendent of Midland ISD, along with Trustees Michael Booker and Sara Burleson, joined district leaders, higher education partners, teachers, and families in honoring the future educators. The evening featured guest remarks from Dr. Michael Dixon, Provost of Midland College; Dr. Teresa Simpson, Vice President of Enrollment at the University of Texas Permian Basin; and Jessie Garcia, Chief of Human Capital for Midland ISD.
Added Jeff Horner, Executive Director of Career and Technical Education, “This event is about more than recognition. It’s about acknowledging students who have chosen a path of purpose—one that will positively shape the lives of future generations.”
