Mike Smith named first president, CEO of Permian Basin Road Safety Coalition

Michael D. “Mike” Smith was named this week as the first president and CEO of the non-profit Permian Road Safety Coalition (PRSC).

The PRSC is on a mission to reduce crashes and fatalities on roadways in 28 counties in Southeast New Mexico and West Texas.

Previously serving as the PRSC managing director, Smith was described as instrumental in launching the coalition in 2018.

“Appointing our first president and CEO reflects the growth in importance of road safety and the increasing voice that PRSC has on the issue,” said PRSC Board Chairman Jon Hamill said. “Mike’s experience makes him the right person at the right time to lead on road safety across the Permian Basin.”

Ellen K. Ramsey, PRSC’s executive director from 2021-2024, will now serve as the PRSC special projects manager.

“I’m delighted that Ellen remains a member of our team,” Smith said. “In her new role, she will continue to support two coalition community projects while developing a third. She set us on an incredible path for success and we are grateful for her leadership.”

Deirdre Skaggs, who previously managed PRSC programs, has been promoted to program director. Claire Bacon, who previously coordinated PRSC’s social media, was promoted to social media manager.
