Odessa to Host 2026 Lions State Convention in May

Historic First: Texas Lions Club State Convention coming to Odessa in 2026

In an historic milestone, the Texas Lions Club State Convention will make its inaugural appearance in Odessa in 2026.

This will mark the first time in the history of District 2‑T3 that the state convention is being held in the Permian Basin.

The district, which includes El Paso, Alpine, Odessa, Andrews, Kermit, Pecos, Fort Stockton and surrounding areas, only rotates as host cities once every 16 years. The last time the state convention was held in the district, it was in El Paso.

Now, thanks to the presence of the newly constructed Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, the Permian Basin finally has a venue large enough to accommodate the state-level convention, according to Lions Club leader and convention chair Teresa Burnett.

The event is scheduled for May 28–30, 2026. Organizers expect at least 400 attendees, including all 16 Lions district governors from across the state, former Lions International Presidents, and international families.

Highlighting regional identity, Devon Energy has been secured as the primary sponsor and featured presenter, ensuring that the convention reflects the oil and gas heritage central to West Texas. Sessions and exhibits will showcase the industry alongside Lions Club’s global service missions, which include vision, childhood cancer, diabetes, hunger, environment, disaster relief, youth empowerment, and mental health awareness.

Burnett says the Lions Club’s international mission aligns deeply with her personal values, particularly programs serving children through medical support, educational services, and vision care. This convention presents an unprecedented opportunity to demonstrate that impact throughout the district, she adds.

‘To showcase Lions—and Odessa, West Texas—we’re proving we have a lot to offer’

Outside of formal programming, organizers have curated a rich schedule of tours and entertainment for attendees and their families. Planned highlights include a special Petroleum Museum tour, “Once in a Blue Moon” themed musical events featuring mariachi, symphony, country & western, and dueling pianos at the famed “Hell at the Moon” venue, and local experiences such as visits to the Ellen Noël Art Museum, downtown mural tours, trips to the winery district, visits to the Woodhouse Spa, and family attractions like the trampoline park and local cinemas.

Having served in Lions for 19 years, Burnett said asked to plan and organize this event is both a personal honor and a significant moment for the region.

“To showcase Lions—and Odessa, West Texas—we’re proving we have a lot to offer,” she said.
